When we talk about the supercars or you can hypercars, the names that click to mind are generally from Europe. Of course, you know the famous names like Porsche, Lamborghini, McLaren, Aston Martin, Bugatti, and Ferrari. Apart from these brands from Europe, American automakers have also contributed a lot to the supercar’s world.
One of many American supercars was Saleen S7 and there is news that it is rolling back with extremely limited stock after about a decade. Saleen S7 was considered to be the first American mid-engine supercar.
The DeTomaso Pantera
The DeTomaso Pantera was designed by an American, Tom Tjaarda but was built in Italy. As it was built in Italy so Ford directly imports it into the US. An American horsepower was used in this car in the shape of Ford V8 block. So due to an involvement of Ford, this car earned a good reputation and was capable of giving tough time on the track to other cars like Lamborghini and Ferrari.
Lamborghini Diablo was built while Lamborghini was the property of Chrysler. It was the first supercar to pass the barrier of 200mph, and in its second iteration, it also has all-wheel drive to just knock out all the other power cars. But then Lamborghini was sold by the Chrysler in 1994. But before their separation, they have built a V10 engine which then used in Dodge Viper.
This car was designed from the start to be the superstar of the road. Loaded with supercharged 5.4-litre V8 engine having 550hp, this car goes from 0-100km/h in just 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 205mph. So, in fact, it surpasses the barrier set by Ferrari 350 Modena at that time.
The SCC Ultimate Aero
This beast once beat the Bugatti Veyron by setting a record of 256.14mph, but later it was found that this car was having twin-turbocharged Chevy V8 engine sitting in its middle. Due to this, the VW-owned firm has to go back to drawing board and in the end all this mess took the record back. All the versions of this car went out of production back in 2013.
